White Port – a forgotten icon of Margaret River wines is re-envisioned

REMEMBER the 70s and 80s, scrunchies and padded shoulders, shorts with long socks, body shirts and safari suits?
Wine was sold in agons and bottles of White Port warmed drinkers in winter or was served with ice as an aperitif in summer.
Around 150,000 visitors on their way to holiday in Margaret River or Augusta would break their journey and stop off at Wrights cellar door on Harmans Mill Road to buy a bottle of White Port.
Henry and Maureen Wright were pioneers of Margaret River winemaking, planting their rst vines in 1973. They owned and operated their vineyard for 25 years, producing Vintage Port, White Port, Hermitage, Cabernet Sauvignon and a Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc-Chardonnay blend. Maureen was the winemaker.
